How cover-ups work
01

Review
Your artist looks at size, color, and age. You share what you want instead. Photos help. Skin in the room matters more.
02

Plan
We sketch ideas that can actually hide old ink. The new design often needs to be larger than you expected. You get a price range and session count before you commit.
03

Cover
Often we pack extra depth and color to mask what is underneath. Larger cover-ups may need two or more sessions.
04

Heal
Wait until it is fully settled before you judge the result. Free touch-ups within six months on shop work.

What we look at
- Size: The new tattoo usually needs to be larger than the old one.
- Color: Dark, saturated old ink needs a bolder, darker new design. Faded work is easier.
- Age: Older tattoos may have softened, which helps. Fresh ink has to heal first.
- Scar tissue: Tattooing the same area twice can feel different and heal differently.
- Designs: Solid color, bold lines, and enough size work best. Fine detail alone rarely covers heavy black work. Flowers, animals, and dark backgrounds are common for a reason.

Who to see
The right match depends on the old tattoo and the new idea. We sort that at the consult.

Questions
Can any tattoo be covered?
Most can be improved a lot. Not every tattoo can hide under one small design. Dark, bold work needs a bigger, darker new piece. Light or faded work is often easier. If a cover-up will not look good, we will say so. Laser fading first is sometimes the honest path. We do not do laser here.
How much does it cost?
Small cover-ups often start around $150–$200. Larger ones that need more sessions can run $500, $800, or more. You get a quote at a free consult. See pricing.
Can I walk in for the tattoo?
You can walk in to talk. The tattoo itself almost always needs a consult first. We have to see the old ink.
How soon can you cover it?
Wait until the old tattoo is fully healed. Usually four to six weeks, longer if the skin had a hard time. If it is years old, you can book a consult right away.
